KPV is a C-terminal tripeptide fragment (Lysine-Proline-Valine) of the hormone α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Despite its small size, it retains much of the anti-inflammatory signaling of the parent hormone, making it a focused research tool for studying inflammation resolution.

KPV is investigated for its ability to enter cells and downregulate inflammatory signaling — including NF-κB and pro-inflammatory cytokine pathways — in epithelial and immune cells.
